STARR—Benlamin. We report with sorrow the passing of Ben amin Starr, retired principal of Paul Hutiman Junior High School 45 Bronx. Mr. Starr had a long and distinguished career as educator. He started as Social Studies teacher at Curtis High School and became Social Studies rhalrman at James Monroe High School, where he a:so was head of the night school. He was Principal of Junior High School 45 Bronx from 1958 until his retirement in 1972. He typified those traits of leadership, scholarship and humanity which left an undying influence on the many teachers, students and Parents whom he guided. Many present supervisors had been helped In their advancement by the encouragement and training of Ben Starr. He served In the preparation and implementation of many examinations for teachers and supervisors. He was an officer and board member of the Junior High School Principals Association for many years. He served on the Supervisory Steering Committee of District 10 and advised a number of superintendents. Among his many interests were history, travel and book collecting. Through the efforts of his family and faculty, it is fitting that Junior High School 45 Bronx will establish a Benjamin Starr Memorial Library.
